NCC Spotlights Renewable Energy on World Consumer Rights Day

  The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has concluded arrangements to host an event to mark the 2023 World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) in Abuja with spotlight on its regulatory initiatives on clean energy usage in the telecoms sector.   In what has become a tradition in the Commission since 2017, when it declared 2017 as Year of the Telecom Consumers when it honoured telecom consumers by connecting with the global theme for the commemoration to celebrate the Day with landmark activities, the Commission has continued to promote consumer protection and enlightenment.   The theme of the 2023 edition of the Day is “Empowering Consumers through Clean Energy Transitions.”   According to NCC’s Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Barrister Adeleke Adewolu, the theme provides opportunity for NCC to share with beloved telecom consumers and other stakeholders, as well as the public, the policies it has instituted, and other actions taken to encourage operators in the sector to t

Oyo Pilgrims’ Board Gives March 20 Deadline for Initial Payment

  The Oyo State Pilgrims' Welfare Board (Muslim Wing) has said it will close the collection of the 2023 initial hajj fare from intending pilgrims on March 20, 2023.   This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Board, Professor Sayed Malik through a statement released to the press today in Ibadan.   The Board fixed Two Million Six Hundred Thousand Naira (#2.6M) only as initial deposit of the 2023 Hajj fare for each of intending pilgrim in the State.   "Recall that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) recently allocated 1441 seats to Oyo State for the 2023 Hajj exercise and in view of this, the State's Pilgrims Welfare Board has fixed the sum of Two Million Six Hundred Thousand Naira (#2.6M) only as initial deposit for each of intending pilgrims pending the announcement of final Hajj fare for the exercise by the NAHCON", he stated.   The Board's Chair called on all intending pilgrims wishing to travel with the Board to make sure they pay the amount into a

Huge Crowd Holds Solidarity Walk for Makinde’s Re-Election

A huge crowd of supporters grounded human and vehicular movement in Ibadan on Wednesday, staging a walk in support of the Gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Governor Seyi Makinde.   The crowd included Nigerian youths, Teachers, Civil Servants, Traders, Artisans, motor dealers among others.    The enthusiastic supporters of Governor Seyi Makinde began the solidarity march at Mapo through Beere, Oje, Gate, Total Garden and terminated the walk at the State secretariat, Ibadan.   It was organized by a support group, led by the trio of Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, Mr. Oriyomi Hamzat, and Ms. Seyi Peace.   The supporters defied the cloudy weather and walked round several streets in a carnival-like atmosphere.    They walked tirelessly, making their voices heard and chanting songs in support of Gov. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have rescheduled the Governorship and House of Assembly Elections from March 11, 2023 to March 18, 2023. INEC in their official statement explained that, the reconfiguration of the BVAS machine and the Presidential Petition Tribunal late ruling responsible for the postponement of the exercise.

ADOGBA CENTRAL MOSQUE: MATTERS ARISING

  By Adejare Ibrahim The Adogba Central Mosque, which the Oyo State Government demolished, had tons of history attached to it. Those who knew what transpired at that time would confirm what I am writing here. This story, I'm very sure, no one has ever told Governor Seyi Makinde. At the initial stage, the Adogba Central Mosque was built by Haramain Islamic Foundation. Haramain, a Saudi-based humanitarian organisation, in those days, embarked on many lofty programmes, targeted at the poor and less privileged. All these happened in the early and late 90s. One of the cardinal programmes of Haramain was building of central mosques across some major towns in Yorubland. Oyo, Ibadan and some towns were the beneficiaries. There are some mosques we see today, which some of us don't know their origin. For example, the central mosque at Oja Oke in Ilora, Araromi Market Central Mosque in Oyo, Alegongo Central Mosque in Akobo, Ibadan, and Adogba Central Mosque were all built by Haramain Isla
